Dan Hugo
Dan Hugo represents the American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus, Georgia…better known as AFLAC. As an independent agent for the company, he works closely with business owners providing voluntary supplemental benefit programs to employees. These compliment existing benefits offered through each business and serve to provide additional financial support to individuals and families when they face difficult situations.
Dan Hugo’s career incorporates over 20 years not-for-profit experience working with local, regional, national, and international charitable organizations as well as being a successful entrepreneur and most recently was entrenched in the financial world providing wealth management services to individuals, families, business owners and charitable institutions seeking unique ways to raise additional funding for endowments.
Dan’s expertise from the 3rd sector includes working with major donors in creating planned giving, legacy, and endowment programs as well as conducting successful capital campaign efforts. Most recently he was associated with the Colorado Neurological Institute. He’s managed and directed regional and national capital campaign efforts. Among these were the successful completion of Colorado Mountain College’s $4.5 million capital campaign and Morris Animal Foundation’s $11.5 million endowment campaign. He also created and established the American Humane Association’s $5 million Fund for the Protection of Animals in Motion Pictures and Television. He established and initiated the “Ride with the Stars” program for the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association. His years in the 3rd sector have enabled him to touch nearly every aspect of non-profit management in addition to providing consulting services associated with strategic planning and feasibility studies for project funding and campaign efforts.
As an entrepreneur, he is co-founder and a former member of the board of directors of PetCARE Television Network, Inc. as well as the African American Medical Network, Inc. (both captive audience based television networks). In this arena he developed the business plans, raised the investment capital to launch the networks and, in the case of PetCARE TV, worked with over 6,000 animal organizations in Canada and the U.S. The network also worked closely with 5,000 veterinary practices and established a subscriber base of more than 2,500 veterinary offices. In addition, the network established strong working relationships with the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Humane Society of the United States. PetCARE captured more than 15% market penetration and is now in Canada, United States, Puerto Rico, and Australia.
Dan is the former Vice President and Sales Director with BNY Mellon Wealth Management in Denver, Colorado where he was responsible for developing new business and marketing strategies throughout the Rocky Mountain Region with a focus on delivering wealth planning, investment management and financial management services to high net worth individuals and families as well as successful businesses, entrepreneurs, and charitable institutions.
He is the past president of both the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists for the State of Colorado and served on the National Boards for both organizations. He is also a former member of the board for Colorado’s Motion Picture and Television Commission. Dan earned a dual bachelor’s degree in mass communications and theatre from the University of Denver and is actively involved with many organizations including Club 20, CTEK, Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable, the Denver Zoo, Denver Film Society, Denver Botanic Gardens, and on the Advisory Board for Metropolitan State College’s Center for Innovation, as well as many other charitable groups.
Dan and his wife, Dori, have three boys.
